What is sports massage and soft tissue therapy?
Sports massage and soft tissue therapy are techniques to help relieve pain, injury and muscular dysfunction in clients.
Causes of these problems can range from sporting injury, postural dysfunction, muscle imbalance and neuromusclar dysfunction. In practical terms this could mean an injury playing sport where a person tried to forcefully contract a muscle that was outside of its strongest range of motion, picking up an object (or perhaps your children) from an awkward angle or working at a computer from the wrong angle causing poor posture for extended periods of time.
All of these scenarios can be alleviated with sports massage and soft tissue therapy.
Who am I?
MISRM - Member of the institute of soft tissue therapists (orgianally called the Institute of Sport and Remedial Massage)The ISRM
I have always had an interest in how the body works and how to correct posture and movement and this lead me to completing a sports and exercise science degree at university and then later, a level 5 professional diploma in Clinical Sport and Remedial Massage Therapy with the Cambridge School’s of Sports Massage.
I have been working as a sports massage and remedial therapist since 2017.
I have experience providing sports massage for a range of athletes including:
Cambridge Town bumps’ rowers,
Cambridge half marathon runners,
Ride London cyclists
London triathletes.
Runners at the flaming June 10k and half marathon in Histon.
I am constantly striving to develop my skills and knowledge to provide outstanding practice for all my clients. My attention to detail, organisation and research ensures that I can offer therapy that helps to fix the cause and not just the symptoms of a client’s issue.
As a keen rugby fan I have coached a number of school teams and I am a fully qualified rugby union referee. I have also been involved in rowing in Cambridge taking part in 3 years of town bumps.
I am keen on maintaining my own health and fitness and since the 2020 lockdown, I discovered the benefits and enjoyment of exercising at home with Joe Wicks.
I have worked with a wide range of clients over the years with a vast range of needs - from aiding injury recovery and prevention, to relief from tension and headaches, as well as the aches and pains caused by modern life working from a desk or running after children (being a father of young twins, I am a firm believer in a regular morning stretching routine to enable me to continue to give shoulder carries for both girls as they grow!)
